What to say... - West + Rose

What to say...

I purchased a baby shower gift through an Amazon registry earlier this week.  I always get anxious about what to write on the card.  I am always envious of the perfectly written gift card notes that I receive and that I hear others receiving.  Some people just have a knack for writing the most smooth and eloquent well wishes on a gift card and I'm over here all like "Here you go!"
So, while I was checking out on Amazon I started typing in well wishes, in the gift message box, to the couple expecting their first child.  I backspaced and cleared the message probably ten different times.  I always want to be funny, yet heartfelt...however I have found dry and sarcastic humor does not always translate on paper...Here are a few of the excerpts I considered and then promptly backspaced.

Congratulations! I know you and your husband will be amazing parents.  Becoming a parent changes your life in the best and worst ways....

Congratulations! You no longer get sick days...

Congratulations! You are about to learn why all of your parent friends are late to everything...

Congratulations! This baby shower is the last time that you are known as yourself. Once the baby is born you will be known as the baby's mama and nothing else....

Congratulations! Don't worry, the sleep deprivation is temporary...most of the time...

Congratulations! It is just a matter of time before you and your husband fall asleep before you can even attempt sexy time...

Congratulations!  You are going to be conducting an experiment to see just how many days you can go without showering and not stink...

Congratulations! You are about to get extremely comfortable with bodily fluids and their habit of getting on you...

Congratulations...Once you start to allow yourself a glass of wine again...you will get tipsy off of that one glass of wine...good thing or bad thing? You decide...

Congratulations! Poop is about to become a popular topic in your household...even on your date nights with your husband...true story...

Congratulations! Your home is getting new decor...in the form of piles of laundry, both clean and dirty...

Congratulations! I hope you survive...

Clearly, I am handling this parenting thing well...

So what did I actually write on the gift card?

"I am so excited for y'all and know that you will be amazing parents." Ugh, doesn't get more cliche than that? It's the thought that counts, right?

Happy Friday!
