I talk, on the regular, about how challenging being a full-time working mother of two can be.  Momming, by itself, is no cake walk...then you add in having this whole other life outside of the home, and tasks for which you are responsible for and...well let's just say falling asleep at night is not hard when you are utterly exhausted.  I thought it would be neat show y'all a typical day in my life and some of the things I do to keep my energy up throughout the day...

5-6 AM

Hubs rubs my arm to wake me up.  After a few seconds of contemplating how much I really need my job, I hop right in the shower to wash the sleep off of me and get me ready to start my day.  After my shower, I do the usual: make-up, styling my hair and getting dressed.  I try to have most of these tasks done before I wake the kids up.  Sometimes Vivian wakes up while I am getting ready, which throws a wrench into things, but most mornings she sleeps until I come get her.

6-6:20 AM

I pack up Bubba's lunch, water bottle, and snacks for the day.  I also pack Vivian's food and a couple bottles for daycare.  This is also the time I would be throwing things into a crock-pot, which I usually do once or twice a week in the fall.  I also make sure our dog, Sassy, has food and water and has been let out to do her business.

6:20-7:10 AM

Bubba is slow to rise, so I have to start waking him up in advance.  He hates early mornings unless he is up because he has a baseball game.  Once I have him somewhat coherent, dressed and in the living room with breakfast, I go get his little sister up.  She is the sweetest to wake up.  She is always so happy to see me and gives snuggly hugs...then she fights me tooth and nail while I get her dressed.  I swear my kids are the epitome of sweet and sour!

Hubs leaves for work around 6:30 AM ( He commutes to Atlanta every day!) I spend the rest of the time making sure the kids have eaten their breakfast and that everything is in the car, ready to go.  Bubba usually always carries a part of his breakfast to the car because he is as slow as molasses doing anything in the first hour he is awake.  I also double check that I have my drinks and snacks in the car, such as a bottle of Honest Tea® and a bag of Simple Truth® Organic Teriyaki Beef Jerky, that I picked up at my local Kroger during my weekly grocery shopping trip.

7:10-8 AM

We load up and head out for the day.  I drop Bubba off at the elementary school then head over to Vivian's daycare and drop her off.  Most mornings I make it to work by 7:45 AM, but school traffic in our town is reminiscent of big city traffic sometimes.  During my commute, I have some form of caffeine.  Lately, I have been loving Honest Tea® Organic Peach Tea.  I love being able to read the ingredients and know that I am putting wholesome ingredients into my body.  I also love that they use Fair Trade black tea.  It is just a tad sweet and a perfect pick me up to start my day at work.  To find out more about Honest Tea and get some amazing inspiration click here!

8 AM -5 PM

So I am already exhausted from all that I have to get done between the hours of 5-8 AM, but it's time for me to switch hats for the next 9 hours.  I work as an Academic Advisor.  My days are filled with back-to-back appointments with my awesome students.  I am so thankful to have this job.  Sure, I would love to be a stay-at-home mom, but since I have to work...I am thankful to be in a position that inspires me and that is truly changing the lives of our future generations.

When I have a break between appointments, I try to get up and walk around for a bit.  Sometimes I will just walk around our building or will walk to deliver something that I would normally send through campus mail.  My job requires me to be sedentary for most of the day so I try to find ways to get moving.  This is not only good for your body but also provides you with an all-natural boost of energy.  I will also use this time to have a little snack and drink a little caffeine.

5 PM-6 PM

Time to switch hats again.  I race from work to pick up my son from school and get him to baseball practice by 5:30 PM.  He gets changed in the car.  I help him with his cleats, because they are impossible, then he hops out and goes to practice.  I leave from the ball fields to go pick up his sister and head home.  Because I spend a fair amount of time in the car shuttling my kids to and from places, I love keeping Simple Truth Organic Beef Jerky in the car as a quick snack.  Here in Georgia, it may be fall, but it is still hot as heck...beef jerky is one of the few protein hearty snacks that I have found holds up well in the car.

6-7:30 PM

While my son is at ball practice, I begin cleaning his lunch box and my daughter's bottles.  I read and sign his school agenda and layout his homework on the dining room table.  We usually try to get ahead on homework so that he doesn't have to worry about it on baseball nights, but it doesn't always work out.  I try to feed Vivian while I cook supper.  If she needs a bath that night, I try to have that done before the boys get home as well.  Often times, I will have some time to work on the blog while waiting for supper to finish and while Vivian plays in the living room.

7:30-8:30 PM

We eat supper, then Bubba starts working on homework while we clean up the kitchen and usually we have Vivian down in her crib for the night by 8 PM. Once he finishes his homework he takes a quick shower then we settle in the living room and listen to him read a book or two.  After he finishes reading, he heads to bed.

Hubs and I finish picking up around the house, then I make sure Bubba's lunch and snacks are ready to be packed tomorrow and that Vivian has food and clean bottles packed for daycare.  Sometimes I will finish up some of my blog posts for the week, other times hubs and I will just veg in front of the TV watching some baseball or the news.  Many times we go to bed right after the last kid is down...Not ashamed to admit it.

I used to ask myself "Where is all of my time going?  Why can I not get everything done?"  Well, writing this post has cleared that up and it has shown me that I really need to cut the hubs and myself some slack...We have a lot going on, just like most parents do.  No wonder we are so exhausted at the end of the day.  I am thankful to have found some meaningful snacks and drinks, Like Honest Tea and Simple Truth Beef Jerky, that help keep me going during the day so I can be the best mama I can be.
