Grilled Chicken Drumsticks with Alabama White Finishing Sauce




Y'all, one of the best things about summer is grilling!  I love having the hubs grill meats and veggies for suppers.  It is a win/win as it means I don't have to cook as much and it also means minimal clean up  and more time for flirting and dancing with the hubs.  One of our very favorite things to do together is cook.  Instead of blowing money on mediocre restaurant food, many of our date nights consist of us cooking together with good music and wine and the occasional dance in the middle of the kitchen.  

Hubs has really become a grill master over these last few years and has mastered the art of grilling chicken.  Grilling chicken is an art form as it can go from juicy to dry in a matter of one minute it seems like!  One recipe we have been perfecting as of late is our Alabama White Finishing Sauce that is an absolute game changer on grilled meats and vegetables.  You do not need to douse your foods in this sauce, it is a very bold and tangy sauce that only needs to be drizzled onto foods to add more dimension for your taste buds.  



| I N G R E D I E N T S |

10 Chicken Drumsticks
3-4 Tbls of your favorite poultry rub

For sauce:

1 Cup Mayonnaise (Duke's or Hellman's preferred)
1/3 Cup Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar
1.5 tsp Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
1 tsp Garlic powder
1 tsp Onion powder
1/4 tsp Sea salt
1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
A couple dashes of hot sauce, optional


| M E T H O D |

Prepping the Finishing Sauce:

Mix all ingredients together with a whisk until sauce is completely combined and homogeneous.  Cover and place in fridge for at least an hour before serving so that the flavors can marry together. 

Prepping the chicken:
Take drumsticks out of package, rinse with water and pat dry with paper towels
Sprinkle half of the rub onto the chicken and press in to make sure most of it sticks.  Flip drumsticks over and sprinkle remaining rub.  Patting the rub into the meat ensures that it stays onto the chicken once it goes on the grill. 



Grill Time:
Place your grill burners on medium flame and let it warm up for at least 10 minutes.  Next, place drumsticks over the flame and do not touch them for roughly 10 minutes.  You want to avoid flipping meat too early or too much so that you can achieve good char marks on your meat.  Flip the chicken after about 8-10 minutes and let the other side cook for an additional 8 or so minutes.  Remove from grill. Using meat thermometer, check internal temp of the meat.  You want it to be around 165 degrees.  Let chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.  When ready to serve, drizzle the cold finishing sauce, that you've had chilling in the fridge, over the meat and serve!



This is a very easy recipe that will really WOW! your guests or just your family.  I really love the dynamic of the hot grilled chicken with the cold, creamy finishing sauce.  It really kicks up the grilled chicken a few notches.  I bet most of you have all of the ingredients for the finishing sauce in your kitchen right now, as they are all very common spices and condiments.  This sauce is also really great on grilled pork and even steak and seafood.  Just put it on all the things...you will thank me for it.
