babies are just greedy, tiny bandits...

Babies are just tiny bandits. They steal our hearts. They steal our souls.  They steal our sleep!  Most parents with small babies live in a state of desperation.  We are all just trying to make it through however we can.  For us, up until recently, we have been desperate for sleep.  Our first born, Bubba, was a solid sleeper at night from the time he was a month old.  We just got lucky.  He did not do enough damage to prepare us for the beautiful force of nature named Vivian...

When we first got home from the hospital with Viv she was a rockstar sleeper.  She would sleep 5-6 hours straight at night and was a solid napper during the day no matter what commotion Bubba was causing.  Then, around the time she was 2-3 weeks old, the hypothetical rug got ripped right out from under us.  Vivian began getting up every two hours and would stay up for an hour our two during the night.  She also became extremely colicky and gassy and started having reflux.  Needless to say, our low needs baby became a very high needs baby.

She didn't seem to like our co-sleeper that we used with Bubba, which is just a smaller version of a crib that can be placed beside the bed, so I purchased a rock n' play thinking the incline would make her more comfortable.  The rock n' play was ok for naps, but she did not like it at night.  I also became concerned that it would make her transition to the crib much harder.  So we went against the recommendations and used a blanket in the original co-sleeper.  We rolled one up and put it near her head because she seemed to like resting her head on something. She also seemed to like having a smaller, more cozy, area to sleep in.  This tactic helped some, but I was a nervous wreck about having anything in her sleeping area.  I was at my wits end and we both desperately needed uninterrupted sleep.

Then I discovered one of our most favorite baby items to date: The Dock-A-Tot Deluxe.  It is a multi-functional lounger that is made with breathable, 100% cotton and the cover is machine washable.  It comes in two sizes: the Dock-A-Tot Deluxe is for babies 0-9 months and the Dock-A-Tot Grand is for babies 9-36 months.

Now, I am not going to claim a miracle occurred on the first night in the Dock-A-Tot...nor am I going to claim that she sleeps through the night now.  Neither of those things happened.  What I will tell you is that the Dock-A-Tot Deluxe has made our lives much easier, both during the day and at night. My daughter's first night in the Dock-A-Tot, Viv slept about 5 hours before waking up to be fed and then was easy to put back down and slept another 3 hours.  She still has some difficult nights, but her sleep patterns have immensely improved since we began using the Dock-A-Tot Deluxe.

During the day, I put her in the Dock-A-Tot to lounge in so she doesn't get used to being held all the time and she also does her tummy time on the rim of it.  We have hardwood floors on cement slab in our house, so our floors are insanely hard with no give.  I always felt bad laying her on a blanket on our hard floors to use her play gym as it just didn't seem like enough of a cushion.  Now, I place her in the Dock-A-Tot on the floor to use her play gym and she loves it.

One of the biggest #epicwins for us is we have our bedroom back...Viv sleeps in the Dock-A-Tot in her room.  Allowing us to have our own space again, which is so important for all parents of little ones.

The beauty of the Dock-A-Tot is that it is versatile, portable and safe.  Since her first night in the Dock-A-Tot, Vivian's sleep/wake patterns have become more predictable.  She is slowly falling into her own schedule and mama over here is jumping for joy.  If you are expecting, or currently have a baby who is having difficulty getting quality sleep, I highly recommend trying the Dock-A-Tot.  This product has helped our entire family get more sleep and provides a comfortable and safe environment for Vivian.
